if only....yes, if only. If i did indeed have another hand at the end of an arm that for some odd reason sprouted from my shoulder (right preferably) i would be able to card more fiber while feeding a one year old, wiping spilled milk up off the floor, turning the dance music up, calling my bank, building a fairy house, chopping vegetables, measuring flour and juggling with scarves. But, alas i carded about 20 beautiful batts of wool this week, and i cannot wait to spin them. Big plans, my friends. Today we are headed to the city to be closer to a plane that leaves in the morning. That plane will carry us to Indio where we will fest-out with Phish for Halloween. And as soon as i get back....i will post new photos of new yarn...and start filling in my new website! November is going to be so sweet!

have i told you lately that i love you? No? Well thats is what happens when the sun shines and the festivals buzz...i dance, frolic and want to be outside...i dont much feel like spinning yarn these days...and with the tiny one walking now...yeah seriously...ive had to crash proof the apartment...so my wheel is lost somewhere in a closet or something...but soon we will have rain and i will spin again, my love.

well hello again...yarn blog...its been awhile.

so im back into the swing of things...dying mostly...right this second i am spinning some hand-dyed roving cooperatively (ooooh my fav word right now) with a hand-spun single...with some sweet nubs. waiting for my kid mohair to dry. its purple...it will be fuzzed onto a thread...cant wait to spin it...thinking contrasting loops or something? not sure yet. will post new yarn thur?

driving and road tripping has me in such a dream state...and then with the dead show...im just out there right now. i have so many great ideas, tho...and am loving my new moleskin sketch journal...catching all those butterfly thoughts before they flutter away.

after a trip up to oregon and a trip back to my hometown, hangtown...im back home for awhile. Visited family, met some new family, saw the dead (wow) and soaked up the hot hot air. Driving home to arcata the temp was 101 leaving sacramento and 55 several hours later in eureka. amazing. i love my cool climate home...the heat was nice to visit tho! Inspired by the beautiful color popping flowers, green green grass and roman sandles (yeah, really) so now im home...gonna spin some of whats left from my hangtown dreaming and wanderings on the hot highway.

arg! I have finally outgrown my little point and shoot. Shoot! Im looking for a new camera...i think it will save me loads of time...i simply take way too much time to shoot, upload and edit my photos...and half the time im not happy with them. time for a new camera...but meanwhile I am so very happy with adding new yarn to my website http://www.mamalojo.com/ and here is the funny photo of the week...while trying to illustrate the size of the felted blood clots in the nurse nancy yarn...my fingers look like they are spun right into the yarn...like "here have some real fingers too...no extra charge"

so, my drum carder is on the brink of destruction...but i should pop up with something by this weekend...problem is...i can't stop reading books! Getting ready to spin with some lovely fluffly white alpaca, golden brown bfl wool, pink sparkle, some custom batts of merino (gold, pink, browns) and vintage pink and pinker fuzzy thread...

Here is Athena...58 yards of hand dyed, hand carded batts of merino and romney...bits of sparkle, spun thick and thin with lofty bits and slubs...plied with a kinky powder blue yarn... soft and squishy!

on a side note: im a little frustrated with some mohair that I have...its so filled with veggie matter (vm) its ridiculous! Im trying my best not to fall asleep while slowly picking through it and gently shaking and fluffing it all out...my carder wont really get it out either...time for a new drum carder? yeah, i think so!

New yarn finished: (see below) meloncolony...hand dyed and carded merino, polypay and hampshire lamb cross...some sparkle...55 yards of peachypink, candystriped combos of pinks, blues, browns, greys, etc....greens with lavenders...some big poofy puffs, too.

sweet jane...and she smells so nice! Single spun thick and thin with lots of slubs...sparkle...spun with a hot pink cotton core, at times co-spun, and fuzzed with core. she's a gold digger, though and has bits of gold locks spun right in...roller derby sparkle spandex meets marilyn monroe (the pink years)

hello yarn...first of many to be featured here...the lovely metropolis. 72 yards of romney, merino and polypay...all hand washed, dyed and carded with sparkle here and there...single spun thick n thin with lofty bits of fluffy love. This yarn is deep, handsome, and soft...but not too soft...just like a good man....would make a lovely clutch, beanie or necktie (anyone?)

so...my camera is giving me a little trouble, and i apologize for any blur you may encounter...it is not my intention but rather a glitch in the settings on my ancient point and shoot that is begging to be retired.

i am spinning the female counterpart to metropolis, mmmm i love it...here are some photos of the progress so far!

its filthy, dirty, stinky...and so totally lovely, that I'm cheering it on to dry quickly so that i may spin it. interesting that it took about 3 times as many baths to scour this fleece...which will take me a week because I'm using the one pot method. See, with children around, a huge stinky soapy tub of fleece just isn't a good idea...for so many reasons...don't get me started. so one pot, with a handful of gorgeous locks and squeezable softness gets washed...that way i can keep a good eye on it and let it whisper to me its favored fate. so far, grace, wants nothing to do with sparkle, and most certainly nothing to do with that Romney or polypay...so maybe she'll be pure. a sweet simple knit for the warmest mittens, or baby longies.
